Bureaucracy and Democracy

Bureaucracy:

1. A system of government in which most of the important decisions are taken by state officials rather than by elected representatives.

2. Excessively complicated administrative procedure.


3. A large group of people who are involved in running a government but who are not elected.

4. A system of government or business that has many complicated rules and ways of doing things.

Example: -She was fed up with all the red tape and bureaucracy.
-Both candidates pledge to simplify the state's bloated bureaucracy.



Democracy:

1. A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.

According to Political Scientist Larry Diamond, It consists of four key Elements-

1) A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections.

2) The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life.

3) Protection of the human rights of all citizens.

4) A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.
